Dahlia Daze

Dahlia Daze
8 x 10 Oil Painting
by Pat Fiorello

Did this painting with a differnt approach than my often used, transparent underpainting followed by opaques method.  Below are the steps in the progression from initial drawing and  laying of darks, midtones and lights , in that order as well as the 3 different value families mixed on my palette.

The original photo reference was sent to me by my cousin Marie. It's a dahlia from her Brooklyn container garden, planted and tended by her husband Paul.

Hydrangea Light 2016- Painting Flowers in Oil Workshop September 7-9

Hydrangea Light
16 x 20 Oil Painting
by Pat Fiorello
Spent a wonderful day back in the studio yesterday with a new student, Charlotte. She could not attend my upcoming "Painting Flowers in Oils, Alla Prima" workshop in September, so she drove up from Florida and we arranged a private one day workshop. It's amazing what you can learn in just a day. She created a fabulous painting and learned lots about the importance of planning out your values!
Here are some progression shots of how this painting unfolded during our "paint-along" in my studio and our finished paintings.   It was fun!

For more info on the upcoming workshop September 7,8 & 9 in Norcross , GA see the link for Kudzu Art Zone.  There is still room for you to join in the fun.

Or if you are interested in a private one day workshop in my Georgia studio, please contact me.

European Escapes III

European Escapes III
8 x 10 oil painting
Sold

Created this painting for someone who had  been interested in European Escaoes II below which had already been sold.  We decided to envision more of a sunny day and bluer sky than the original scene from France.
