Floral Friends

Floral Friends
16 x 20 Oil Painting
by Pat Fiorello
$1500
Recently found this beautiful green vase on ebay (a great place to find still life props by the way) and decided to create a still life set up around it. It was late one evening and I wasn't able to get the flowers I needed so instead worked with some silk flowers I have and sometimes use for "stand -ins".  I had some peonies, then added roses and hydrangeas all in the white/ivory family.

Below is a photo of the initial set up. As I went along, I added and modified some shapes to fill up more of the space.

I have to say it was much more challenging to paint from the silk flowers, because although the general shapes and value relationships worked fine, you lose the subtle color notes in the shadows. After a couple of days of work on this, I still was not satisfied. I put it aside for a few days and then came back today and added some more color notes to liven it up a bit. Anxious to get back to working from some live flowers after this experience.

David Austin Roses- Patience

Study- Austin Patience
6 x 8 oil painting
 NFS
Every once in awhile it is good to go back to basics and just paint a simple study of a single flower in light and shadow.  This is not necessarily a simple flower, but it is a beauty- one of the David Austin Rose collection.

Austin and Silver

Austins & Silver
12 x 16 Oil Painting
Here's a larger study of 2 types of David Austin roses- Juliet (the pinkish) and Patience (the whiteish).  All of the David Austin roses are exquisite-  they often have many petals- and can be quite challenging to paint.  I have one rose plant that's doing pretty well so far  here in Atlanta ( not in bloom not, but look great  when they are in season) so I'm going to try out another type to see how those do.  You can see more of what they have to offer at:

While it's been well below freezing in Atlanta all weekend and we've been "iced in", I choose to remember a much warmer, sunnier place. Painted "Remembering Lake Como" 12 x 16 oil painting inside my warm studio this weekend. Hope it provides some warm memories for you as well.

Birthday Roses

Birthday Roses
12 x 24 Oil Painting
by Pat Fiorello
I received a bouquet of one of my favorite flowers, white roses, from my husband for my birthday. Enjoyed painting them this week. Thought the longer format might be nice for a change to emphasize the length of the stems too.

Birthday Flowers

Birthday Flowers
12 x 16 Oil Painting
by Pat Fiorello

Who doesn't love to get a nice surprise at the door with a delivery person holding a beautiful bouquet.  My birthday was earlier this week and I got a surprise bouquet from my cousin in NY.  It's a double treat- I get to enjoy the flowers and feel grateful her thoughtfulness as well as spend some joyful time painting the bouquet in a still life set up.

My Happy Place

My Happy Place
16 x 20 Oil Painting by Pat Fiorello
SOLD
This painting was commissioned as a Christmas gift. It's a place in Bavaria that is of special significance to someone. Her boyfriend took some photos while they were there on a recent trip and shared them with me to create the painting. Here's what the recipient said:

"Dear Pat,
I am thrilled with my new painting!  Thank you so much for bringing this happy view into my life permanently.  Andy was so cute taking pictures when we were there in June, but I didn’t realize he was commissioning a painting.   I am so glad you got the tower in there.  It is important to me.  The painting is so beautifully done and again, I thank you so much for capturing this scene and adding happiness to my life".

I have fun collaborating with clients on a special surprise gift that is personally meaningful to someone they love.

If you have an idea for something you'd like captured permanently on canvas. please feel free to contact me to explore what might be possible.
