Dahlia a la Sorolla

Dahlia a la Sorolla
8 x 10 Oil Painting
by Pat Fiorello
$300

I wanted to do an experiment and paint something in the spirit of one of my favorite artists Sorolla.

I had a photo of a beautiful dahlia and had turned it into black and white for  a photo challenge on Facebook.   The shape and form of it was striking and it inspired me to give it a try as a painting. I painted it once from the black and white photo just focusing on value and to get familiar with this type of flower (see last blogpost Dahlia Drama) but wanted to push the colors further even though it was  a white flower.  The real flower photographed was in fact pink, but I wanted to let that go and use my own color choices to depict a white flower in sunlight. I added more warmth to the white in sunlight and cooled off some of the areas and shapes in shadow.

Dahlia Drama

Dahlia Drama
8 x 10 Oil Painting
by Pat Fiorello

I recently was asked to participate in the 7 day Black & White photo challenge on Facebook. The idea was to post B&W photos for 7 days in a row, no people, no explanations.  In doing so ,I went thru some of my photo's and just dropped the color out to focus on the beauty of the shapes and the contrasting lights, darks and mid-tones. Some of the photo's in B&W inspired my curiosity to give them a go for painting. This Dahlia was painted using only the black and white photo as a reference.

Roses & Ivy

Roses & Ivy
 12 x 16 Oil Painting
by Pat Fiorello
 SOLD

What's more important than celebrating love? I enjoy using my artwork to play a role in that.

A recent groom commissioned a painting of his wife's bouquet for a surprise first anniversary gift for her. It was a beautiful bouquet filled with roses and flowing ivy.

Here's what my client shared the day after his anniversary:

Hi Pat! Thank you for the sweet note!
We had a great day, and Rachel loves her painting!
We are both very impressed with your work and will happily recommend you to anyone who is looking to have a painting commissioned.
Thanks again!

Love Blooms- Bridal Bouquet Painting

"Love Blooms"
12 x 12 "Forever Bouquet Painting"- Oil
by Pat Fiorello
SOLD
"Love Blooms" is bridal bouquet painting I created as a gift from a mom to her daughter who recently got married.  The groom's family is from the Southwest and the couple has moved there so they included some succulents and other foliage for a bit of that southwestern feel. The bouquet was created by Blooms of Dunwoody in Dunwoody, GA.

If you'd know someone who might like to give a gift of a bridal bouquet painting, you can see more here or message me directly. It's a beautiful and lasting way to commemorate one of life's most meaningful occasions.

Some closeups and work in progress on the easel below.
