I recently gave a talk, "Travel & Art, Perfect Together " and thought I'd share some excerpts here:
Top 11 Reasons to Go on a Travel Painting Workshop
11. Opportunity to learn from top instructors, build skills and confidence
10. Meet and learn from other
artists from around the country (& world). A way to travel with people who
share your passion. Make new friends.
9.Find creative inspiration to
challenge and stretch you- new approaches, subject matter, colors etc…
8.Opportunity to paint on location (paint from real
life vs. from photographs), get out of your studio. Build
observational skills
(John Carlson “landscape sense”), composition, (learn to
edit and simplify!)
7. Get great photo references for
future paintings, ideas for a series
6. Unusual subjects, painted
well, may stand out in juried competitions
5. Can mix business &
pleasure (some expenses may be tax deductions if you are selling art)
4.Complete immersion in something
you love- have focus & time for painting without everyday distractions
3. Accelerates your learning- day
after day concentrated period, group critiques, can immediately apply learning
the next day while fresh in your mind. See progress from the first to last
days.
2. Can be a life enriching,
transformative growth experience. Out of your comfort zone, in a different
place away from everyday life. Personal growth- more than a workshop- adult
enrichment.
1. Come back motivated to paint
even more- gets you back in touch with what you love about being an artist,
observing the beauty around you and expressing that in your own unique
way. And HAVE FUN!!!!
