Hydrangea Garden

Hydrangea Garden
9 x 12 Oil Painting
$450

While in N.J. recently visiting my family and my friend Jean in the charming town of Madison, N.J. (yes, if you've never been there, there are many beautiful spots in NJ-  it is known as the "The Garden State" despite it's late night comedy reputation).

We drove past this house and I just loved it and immediately could see a painting in the works! Jean drove me back later that day to take some photos
(see below).

When I got home I cropped in to make more of the white hydrangeas which initially grabbed my attention. I simplified the architecture down quite a bit, changed some of the other flowers and, okay, I probably went overboard on the hydrangeas, but it captures how I feel about them (an abundance of love and excitement) more than reproducing the scene literally.  I love the combination of the white house and white hydrangeas against all the green foliage.  It has such a fresh look and this type of foliage reminds me of my time growing up in the Northeast.

"Hydrangea Garden" above is the painting that I completed earlier this week inspired by my "drive by" in N.J.

A beautiful home & garden in Madison NJ

  1. I too love a simplified color combination of white with green. It often indicates peace and comfort. Think of white snow in winter on dark green fir trees. You did a perfect job of simplifying the house .
