Vincent's Inspiration

Vincent's Inspiration
8 x 10 oil painting
by Pat Fiorello

Took the same subject matter, colors, composition but this time created it with exclusively a palette knife,  no brushes. Adds a lot of texture and a lot more activity/energy vs the earlier version( see below) painted with my usual brushes which feels more peaceful.

Sunday Sunflowers

"Sunday Sunflowers"
8 x 10 oil painting
by Pat Fiorello

Every once in awhile I have a painting that I want to revisit. I did Sunday Sunflowers after Saturday Sunflowers was completed. I intended to do this one with a palette knife, and oops!, before you know it I was halfway into the painting and realized I was automatically using my brushes. So, yes, there will be a 3rd version using exclusively the palette knife, coming soon.

Yellow & Blue

Yellow & Blue
16 x 16 oil painting
by Pat Fiorello
$1250

I bought this blue and white vase on a recent trip to Pienza Italy with the intention of including it in a future painting (at least that was my justification for buying another vase).

These yellow roses seemed like a perfect opportunity to include it in my  still life set up.

For Shelly

For Shelly
6 x 8 oil painting
by Pat Fiorello
Not Available
A friend of mine, Shelly, has been on several of my painting workshops in Italy and France. This year she joined me in Tuscany. Our group of 9 stayed in a lovely private villa where each night dinners were specially prepared for us. The table was beautifully set and we'd  always have flowers picked from the villa's own garden to decorate the dinner table. Shelly was asked to create some of the dinner bouquets. This was one of the lovely bouquets she created for us to enjoy.

Shelly recently had a special birthday, so I thought it might be nice for her to have a painting of one of her floral creations as a memory of our wonderful time in Tuscany together.  I surprised her with it this week and she was delighted to have a reminder of that special evening in Tuscany to enjoy in her home every day.

Lucky 7

Lucky 7
16 x 16 Oil Painting
by Pat Fiorello
$1200

Had started this painting a few weeks back when I had the fresh flowers arranged in my studio. Before I left for a 3 week trip, I got to a stopping point but still felt like the painting wasn't complete.

Upon returning, I decided I didn't like the background being as dark as it was, so I lightened it and warmed it up a bit.  Of course re-painting the background is not as easy as it sounds because it creates hard edges that silhouette the flowers. You really need to go back in and adjust the edges of the flowers so it doesn't  there feels like some atmosphere and the flowers don't feel so "cut out". Revising a painting is not that easy. A painting is a series of relationships- colors, shapes, sizes, values, edges. Once you change one thing, it impacts everything else. The earlier version is shown below.

"Tender Moments" is one of my recent "Forever Bouquet Paintings".  This painting was not created for a particular bride, but was created as a display sample. It is currently hanging in the elegant Anne Barge Atelier, the flagship store of Anne Barge in Atlanta, GA.  Many thanks to Anne Barge Atelier for sharing my bouquet paintings with their brides.

I have been to Anne Barge Atelier on several occasions and as an artist, appreciate the artistry that goes into conceiving of the gown designs and then the quality craftsmanship that goes in to the the selection of fine materials and exquisite embellishments for the actual creation of their bridal "masterpieces".  Like any great work of art, regardless of the medium,  it requires a vision, commitment to excellence, quality materials and attention to detail. Below is a photo of some "inspiration boards" for gown design for the upcoming seasons displayed at the Atelier. It's fun to see a peek into their creative process.

Violet Dreams

Violet Dreams
8 x 10 Oil Painting
by Pat Fiorello
 $300

Every once in awhile I like to paint from my imagination. I may have an idea of a color- in this case violet roses- which are not that common, but very pretty- and then imagine what other containers, background colors would support those flowers.  Then I imagine how lighting would change from light into shadow. This painting was created in that way.
