White & Blue

Been doing a little more experimenting with the palette knife- trying to get the right balance of texture- some to get the spirit of the type of flowers, but not too much.
"Golden Moment"
6 x 8 oil painting

$100
The other day I posted a yellow rose against a soft light greenish background.
Today I painted another yellow rose against a dark background. Interesting to see the difference in mood just by changing the color of the background with very similar subject matter Here is the earlier rose for comparison.
Silver & Gold
8 x 10 oil painting
by Pat Fiorello
$300
Saved this old silver teapot that was on it's way to Goodwill from a relative cleaning out her closet. But when we polished it up, we both thought the same thing- this needs to be painted! So now it's officially part of my painting prop collection. Fun to paint silver- it's all about the reflections.
Red & White
8 x 10 oil painting

Tried something new today. I wanted to paint some flowers not in a vase but just sprawled out. I intended to do an 8 x 10 painting. As part of my May Flowers Challenge this month I'm keeping the paintings on the smaller side .
I took the flowers and leaves and laid them out on top of another 8 x 10 canvas (fortunately that one had a plastic wrap still on so the panel didn't get wet). This allowed me to physically lay out the composition the way I wanted and know that it would fit on an 8 x 10 canvas.
I didn't have a white rose available, but used the pink one as a stand in and made it a little bit whiter. Below is a photo of my layout on the canvas.
