A little piece of Joy

 A little piece of Joy
6 x 6  Oil Painting
by Pat Fiorello
$100

Here's small study I decided to do inspired by a larger painting I'd done earlier this year.  I  simplified it a bit since the size is much smaller and changed the background from light to dark. It has a different feel, but  think it works just as well.  It's amazing how changing a few things can change the whole mood of a painting. I'll show the original below for a comparison.

Which do you prefer?

  1. Both paintings are beautiful! The 'bold' one caught my eye on Leslie Saeta's challenge this morning. I love your work Pat.

  3. Hi Pat, Love your work! I believe I prefer the newer one with the dark background. The nice value contrast plus the bright oranges make it a striking painting (just my personal taste). Also my eye kind of gets trapped in the area on the lower left above the flower laying on the table (on the older painting). I know you wanted that to be a focal point, but maybe not to where it's hard to get out? Anyway, you are very good and I also love your brushwork.

  5. Hi Pat, love the makeover. The contrast adds punch and the brush work is nice and loose, more suggestive. Fun to see them both together.
